Safe Opioid Prescribing Support & Patient Education

Course overview

This intermediate-level continuing education course equips nurses with the knowledge and practical skills to support safe opioid prescribing practices and deliver effective patient education. Participants will explore opioid pharmacology, risk assessment, monitoring strategies, non-opioid alternatives, and evidence-based approaches to patient communication. Emphasis is placed on reducing opioid-related harm, identifying misuse, promoting safe storage and disposal, and supporting patients with pain while minimizing risks. Nurses will also learn their critical role within interprofessional teams to improve outcomes and enhance patient safety.
