Course overview

Despite established guidelines recommending routine developmental surveillance and standardized screening for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in early childhood, many children seen in primary care experience delayed identification and referral. Primary care clinicians often report limited confidence in recognizing early ASD signs, interpreting screening results, and coordinating timely diagnostic evaluation and evidence-based interventions, contributing to delayed diagnosis and sub-optimal developmental outcomes. In addition, many report insufficient training in ongoing medical management, behavioral comorbidities, physicians' family counseling, and coordination with specialty and community resources.
