Course overview

This course explores trauma informed care, a powerful approach to healing and how it can be applied to rehabilitation. In this context, trauma can be defined as anything that has overwhelmed the nervous system's ability to cope or integrate the experience. If not properly integrated, trauma can impact the way the autonomic nervous system functions with lasting impacts on mental and physical health. In therapy, this can present as anything from impaired muscle tone to reduced cognitive functioning to lack of participation. Join us for this introductory course for PT/OT/SLPs who are interested in learning more about this exciting approach rooted in the most current interdisciplinary research. Learn trauma informed strategies to enhance patient outcomes- no matter the treatment population! Participants will examine the neurobiological and functional manifestations of trauma and their impact on patient participation and progress. This course will examine various conditions such as Fibromyalgia, Dementia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and Functional Disorders through the lens of trauma informed intervention, offering a fresh perspective on evaluation and treatment. A perfect course for those feeling burnt out or stuck with current treatment options or those simply looking for more tools to add to their therapeutic toolbox.
