Course overview

Advanced wound care management is an essential component of patient care across hospitals, long-term care facilities, rehabilitation centers, and home health settings. Wounds may occur as a result of surgery, trauma, chronic illness, pressure injuries, or vascular conditions. Proper wound assessment and management are critical to prevent infection, promote healing, and improve patient outcomes. Healthcare professionals including certified nursing assistants (CNAs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), registered nurses (RNs), and allied healthcare providers play an important role in identifying wound complications, implementing appropriate treatment plans, and supporting patients throughout the healing process. Advanced wound care requires knowledge of wound staging, tissue assessment, debridement techniques, and evidence based treatment strategies. This course provides a comprehensive overview of advanced wound care management, including wound assessment methods, classification systems, treatment interventions, and patient education. Special attention is given to complex wound characteristics such as tunneling, eschar formation, and necrotic tissue. Participants will gain practical knowledge to assist in wound monitoring, documentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration while maintaining patient safety and promoting optimal healing.
