Course overview

This continuing education course explores the social, legal, and ethical responsibilities associated with scope of practice in healthcare professions. Healthcare providers must practice within defined professional boundaries to ensure patient safety, maintain legal compliance, and uphold ethical standards. The course examines how scope of practice is determined by licensing boards, state regulations, and professional competency standards. Participants will review legal implications of practicing outside authorized roles, ethical dilemmas encountered in clinical settings, and the social expectations placed on healthcare providers. In addition, the course reviews clinical assessment responsibilities, documentation standards, pharmacologic considerations, diagnostic responsibilities, and treatment protocols that must align with professional licensure. The course also discusses interdisciplinary collaboration and how clear role delineation improves patient outcomes while reducing liability risks.
