Course overview

This webinar introduces real-time quaking-induced conversion (RT-QuIC) assays that are now available for diagnosing human prion disease. RT-QuIC offers rapid, highly accurate detection of misfolded prion proteins in cerebrospinal fluid, fast turnaround time and high diagnostic confidence. The advantages of utilizing the Tau/p-Tau ratio as an adjunct biomarker will be explored. Learning Objectives: 1. Differentiate the major etiologies of rapidly progressive dementia, including prion diseases and prion-like proteinopathies. 2. Evaluate the diagnostic role and performance characteristics of real-time quaking-induced conversion (RT-QuIC) compared to traditional CSF and imaging biomarkers in suspected prion disease. 3. Appraise the broader applications of RT-QuIC and related seeding assays for neurodegenerative disorders beyond prion disease.
