This course provides professionals with the knowledge and skills to effectively support social-emotional development and address challenging behaviors in children ages 0 to 5. Participants will examine behavior as a form of communication, with an emphasis on identifying underlying developmental, emotional, and environmental influences. Participants will review early indicators of dysregulation and common triggers that contribute to challenging behaviors in young children. Evidence-informed, preventative strategies will be introduced to reduce the occurrence of escalated behaviors and promote positive developmental outcomes. The course also focuses on responsive, in-the-moment intervention techniques that support co-regulation and help children develop self regulation skills. Strategies emphasize developmentally appropriate practices that foster secure relationships, emotional competence, and supportive learning environments.

Little Learners, Big Feelings is created for mental health professionals who understand firsthand the emotional weight of clinical work. This course is designed to help professionals working with young children (ages 0 to 5) better understand and respond to social emotional development and challenging behaviors. Participants will explore how early developmental, emotional, and environmental factors influence behavior, while gaining practical, developmentally appropriate strategies to prevent escalation and support regulation.
The content is unbiased, evidence-informed, and free from commercial influence. It was developed by the clinical training team at Lifetime Counseling Center – comprised of licensed mental health professions and psychologist who are qualified professionals with experience in early childhood development, social-emotional learning, and behavior support, ensuring relevance to real-world practice.
Participants will engage in discussion, reflection, and application of practical strategies to support meaningful learning. This course meets the continuing education requirements set by the Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling. Participant information remains confidential, outside of required reporting, and the course is accessible to individuals with disabilities.
