Balance and Motor Control in Geriatric and Neurological Patients (Roberts - Online)

Course overview

About 36 million older adults fall each year resulting in more than 32,000 deaths according to the CDC. Finding effective balance training strategies can be very hard. Balance training must be specific and intense to reduce the risk of falls and return patients to their ADLs effectively and quickly. With the right assessment and treatment tools you can optimize your outcomes and continue to be reimbursed for therapy. Break the revolving door of bounce backs and effectively assess and treat balance and motor control in your geriatric and neurological patient population. This workshop will enhance therapists' understanding of key balance and motor control concepts. Participants will learn how to assess balance accurately and efficiently and apply this assessment to choosing specific balance interventions that will allow your patients to get better faster while reducing their risk for falls. Key concepts will be introduced through discussion of current research and best practice with video case examples utilized in decision making for intervention strategies. Participants will return to their practice able to accurately assess balance and apply targeted and effective treatment strategies which will effectively reduce patients' risks for falls.
