EVD for Acute Neuro Clients

Course overview

This course is designed for nurses working in Neuro, ICU, and CCU settings and focuses on the safe and effective management of External Ventricular Drains (EVD). It provides essential knowledge of intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) drainage, and proper leveling and zeroing techniques. Emphasis is placed on maintaining a sterile closed system, accurate assessment and documentation, and early recognition of complications such as infection, overdrainage, and increased ICP. The course integrates evidence-based practices to promote patient safety, support clinical decision-making, and improve neurological outcomes in critically ill patients.
