As the demand for extended antigen matching grows, traditional serological methods face limitations in identifying rare phenotypes and resolving complex immunohematology cases. This session introduces Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) as the future of blood group typing. Moving beyond the constraints of serology and single-nucleotide PCR, NGS offers a highly accurate method to analyze 36+ blood group systems simultaneously. In short, this interactive session will discuss the use of targeted NGS to identify novel alleles, resolve weak versus partial antigen expression, investigate conflicts, and screen for rare blood types.
