Colorado's statewide prehospital whole blood program covers over 100,000 square miles of diverse geography with 85% of our counties being rural or frontier. We have developed a comprehensive rotation-center based plan to address the challenges of supplying both urban and rural/frontier EMS agencies. This relies on a combination of cold-stored whole blood as well as plasma products. We are continuing to expand our rotation centers policies and procedure to utilize more whole blood in our participating hospitals This is allowing us to equitably provide prehospital blood products to patients across a diverse and complex prehospital environment. This presentation will describe the state of prehospital transfusion in the Blood Assurance service area. We will discuss onboarding of EMS providers, the collection and distribution of blood products and the blood centers overall role in supporting our healthcare providers as they save lives in our community.
