For years, medical providers relied on opiate medications to treat chronic pain, with disastrous results. Drug addiction destroyed multiple lives, leading to the demand for a better approach to managing pain. Chronic pain affects 50 million people in the US. HHS created the Inter Agency Task Force for Pain, advocating a multidisciplinary approach to manage pain and encourage research. In this live, interactive webinar we will identify multimodal therapies to create a patient-centered approach to pain to help licensees make informed clinical decisions by applying the Task Force findings to remediate pain without addictive drugs. We will discuss current pain theories and mechanisms of central sensitization and document functional outcome measures. Evidence-informed interventions for pain alleviation including biopsychosocial models, rehabilitation, and alternative medicine, as well as mindfulness, relaxation, biofeedback, touch, intercultural and spiritual methods will be explored.
