Contemporary Management Strategies for Atopic Dermatitis

Course overview

Atopic dermatitis (AD), also known as atopic eczema, is a chronic, relapsing inflammatory skin disorder characterized by intense pruritus, xerosis (dry skin), and eczematous lesions. It was historically considered a disease of childhood, but more recent data suggest that AD frequently persists into adulthood and may also present as a new condition in adult patients. Advances in understanding the immunopathogenesis of AD have transformed the therapeutic landscape, and the introduction of biologic therapies and oral Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors has prompted substantial updates in national and international treatment guidelines. This continuing education activity reviews the etiology, epidemiology, and pathophysiology of AD. Additionally, common clinical presentations, diagnostic strategies, and interprofessional roles of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians will be discussed.
