Course overview

Medical errors remain a leading cause of preventable harm in healthcare and often result from a complex interaction of human factors, system failures, communication breakdowns, and lapses in clinical judgment. This course provides a comprehensive, proactive approach to preventing medical errors before they occur by examining common sources of failure and identifying strategies for early intervention. Participants will explore high-risk processes in patient care, including medication administration, diagnostics, treatment planning, and transitions of care. Emphasis is placed on recognizing warning signs, adhering to established protocols, applying safe clinical modalities, and maintaining accurate and timely documentation. This course also addresses legal and ethical responsibilities, fostering accountability and reinforcing a culture of safety. By focusing on prevention, healthcare professionals will be equipped with practical tools to reduce risk, improve patient outcomes, and maintain compliance with regulatory standards.
