Opioid Use and Its Impact on Clinical Practice

Course overview

This continuing education course is designed to equip psychologists and mental health providers with up-to-date, evidence-based knowledge and competencies for addressing opioid use disorder (OUD) in clinical settings. Participants will explore the neurobiological foundations of opioids, assess clinical presentations in diverse populations, and integrate psychosocial, behavioral, and ethical approaches in treatment. Special attention will be paid to the intersections of OUD with mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, and trauma. This course includes updated national guidelines, harm reduction strategies, interdisciplinary collaboration, and culturally competent care models. Case examples will be interwoven throughout the course to contextualize clinical applications.
