They are associated with poor health outcomes, increased healthcare costs, and decreased quality of life for patients who experience all types of wounds. There are many types of wounds, wound complications, and treatment methods. Nurses who are knowledgeable regarding wound care best practices are best prepared to provide excellent care to their patients that promotes optimal outcomes. This course will review the various types of wounds and their signs and symptoms, identify risk factors for developing a wound or a wound complication, understand prevention strategies, review evidence-based treatment methods, and outline nursing interventions that support optimal outcomes.
