Course overview

Many controlled substances identified by the DEA have medical uses with varying degrees of potential abuse, while others have no medical use, high degrees of potential abuse, overdose, and death. Education for both physicians and patients is essential to combating drug addiction. Understanding which classes of substances can be prescribed legally, their mechanisms of action, how they lead to addiction, ways to identify addictive behavior in patients, and ways to adapt prescribing practices of controlled substances can help lower risks to prescribers and their patients.
