Periodontal disease remains the most common clinical condition diagnosed in companion animal practice, yet maintaining oral health between anesthetic dental procedures continues to be a major challenge for veterinary teams and pet owners. Gingivitis represents the earliest and only reversible stage of periodontal disease, making early intervention and consistent home care essential components of effective management. This lecture explores the emerging role of hyaluronic acid in veterinary dental medicine, including its biologic mechanisms, clinical evidence, and practical applications in both in-clinic and at-home settings. Participants will review current research evaluating hyaluronic acid therapies, including randomized controlled studies demonstrating improvements in gingival inflammation in dogs. The session will also discuss strategies for integrating simple, technician-driven home care solutions into dental protocols to support periodontal health between COHAT procedures. Attendees will leave with practical tools for improving client compliance, enhancing periodontal care plans, and expanding preventive dentistry protocols within their practices.
