Participants will be able to name at least 5 types of drugs of abuse and their side-effects, will be able to state 11 criteria of the Diagnostic Statistical Manual, 5th Edition for substance use disorder and how to apply to drug use, will learn how to apply 5 different screening tools for Drug Use Disorder to decrease their biases when assessing clients drug use, will be able to state the 6 domains of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, placement criteria and how to rate clients across these domains, will be able to describe how to encourage clients to change by evolving their intrinsic motivation for change, and will be able to describe Motivational Interviewing skills and techniques to move clients from early-treatment stress to later stage readiness to change.
