This course provides a comprehensive look at the safe and ethical implementation of fasting protocols for patients with diabetes, weight management concerns, and other metabolic issues. Participants will learn how fasting impacts insulin, glucose, triglycerides, A1c, and key inflammatory markers, while learning which patients are appropriate candidates, which require caution, and which for whom fasting is contraindicated. Participants will learn to distinguish fasting from calorie restriction, understand how insulin resistance affects fat metabolism, and recognize the health implications of different fat accumulation patterns. Additionally, participants will review foundational knowledge in patient intake and history, Chinese herbal support for diabetes and weight management, cautions and contraindications, relevant health issues to address prior to fasting, and basic nutrition guidelines to support patients safely throughout fasting protocols.
