Although medical and/or recreational marijuana programs are legal in thirty-nine states and cannabidiol (CBD) is available nationwide, confusion continues to permeate regarding what cannabinoids can and can't do, as most health and behavioral health professionals do not receive formal education about cannabis. Although CBD has a burgeoning research base that indicates possible benefits across a number of areas, a gap exists between public marketing claims and what has been replicated in peer-reviewed journals. As for THC, the evidence supporting its use for most medical conditions and particularly psychiatric conditions, is mixed at best and contraindicated at worst. Join Dr. Aaron Weiner for an updated overview about the therapeutic benefits, risks, and limits of cannabis and cannabinoid products, the economic factors that influence the cannabis and cannabinoid market, and how behavioral health professionals can best work with clients struggling with cannabis use disorder.
