Florida Mandatory: Domestic Violence for Florida Healthcare Professionals

Course overview

This 2-hour continuing education course equips Florida healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills to identify, intervene, and respond to domestic violence in clinical settings. The curriculum is compliant with F.S. 456.031 and addresses Florida's legal definition of domestic violence (F.S. 741.28), prevalence and health impacts, universal screening best practices using validated tools, and trauma-informed assessment and response. Participants will strengthen understanding of ethical and legal responsibilities, including mandatory reporting requirements for suspected child abuse (F.S. 39.201) and vulnerable adult abuse (F.S. 415.1034), confidentiality considerations under HIPAA, and best practices for objective documentation and evidence preservation (including strangulation documentation). The course emphasizes safety assessment, safety planning, and referral to Florida's certified domestic violence centers and other support resources, and uses detailed case-based scenarios to prepare clinicians for real-world patient encounters.
