Nocturnal enuresis affects 5-7 million children in the U.S with roughly 15% of 5-year-olds wetting the bed at night and 1-2% still wetting at age 15. Bedwetting is known to cause significant social and emotional issues and has even been indicated as a precursor to child abuse. Parent/child education and treatments are known to improve continence and quality of life. Having more therapists who are able to treat this condition is essential for those suffering with the diagnosis. This course will stress the importance of screening for bowel and bladder symptoms with all pediatric patients. Parent/child education is a key component to toileting success. Therapists will learn strategies to improve toileting readiness, toileting position, along with daytime and nighttime behaviors necessary for continence.
