Responsive Practice: Providing Health Care and Screenings to Individuals with Disabilities

Course overview

Adults with disabilities experience health disparities compared to their peers without disabilities and are less likely to receive recommended preventive health care, more likely to delay needed care, more likely to be diagnosed with preventable conditions, and less likely to manage chronic conditions when diagnosed. In general, healthcare providers lack knowledge and strategies to provide accessible, disability-competent preventive care to adults with disabilities. This session is designed for pharmacists and other health care providers to increase their knowledge and strategies to improve accessibility offering disability-competent care to adults with disabilities so that adults with disabilities get timely, accessible, preventive care. Overall this helps to reduce health disparities and improves health outcomes.
