In this webinar, Dr. Kate Cummings will provide an overview of alpha-2 adrenergic agonists, review their historic uses in veterinary medicine, and highlight key differences among available drugs, including xylazine, medetomidine, and dexmedetomidine. Dr. Cummings will explore the known effects of this drug class on the cardiovascular system, along with other associated side effects, to help clinicians determine when alpha-2 adrenergic agonists are beneficial, when their use should be avoided, and when and how to combine these agents with additional drugs. Attendees will be introduced to Zenalpha (medetomidine and vatinoxan hydrochlorides) Injection and will leave with an understanding of appropriate case selection, dosing considerations, and what differentiates Zenalpha pharmacologically from other sedation options.
