The Role of Occupational Therapists in Addressing Challenging Behaviors (Johnson - Live Interactive Webinar)

Course overview

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has found that 22% of children struggle with self-regulation. These children are more likely to display challenging behaviors that disrupt daily activities, leading to an ever-growing incidence of pediatric referrals to occupational therapy for challenging behaviors. However, many OTs lack an understanding of their role in fully supporting children who struggle with behavior issues. They may feel that their input is limited or that they lack the skills for effective treatment planning and interventions. This workshop will empower occupational therapy practitioners to take a leading role in addressing challenging behaviors by reframing behavior through a developmental and occupational lens. Participants will explore how to collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams, advocate for OTs distinct scope of practice, and learn to apply sound clinical reasoning using the STEPS for Development Problem Solving tool through a real-world case study.
