A Review and Update of HIV/AIDS Fundamentals in Pharmacy Practice

Course overview

Upon completion of this program pharmacists will be able to: Identify primary modes of HIV transmission, including those between healthcare workers and patients; Discuss current epidemiological trends in HIV/AIDS; Review related infections including tuberculosis; Describe how pharmacists play a role in the clinical management, treatment and prevention of the spread of HIV/AIDS; Select appropriate infection control practices to prevent HIV transmission; Distinguish medications used for HIV prevention, treatment, and related infections; Apply Florida HIV/AIDS Laws to testing, confidentiality, and reporting scenarios; State the importance of appropriate partner notification protocol and the offering of HIV testing to pregnant women. Upon completion of this program technicians will be able to: Describe how HIV spreads; List basic public health trends in HIV/AIDS; Recall the relationship between tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS; Identify ways to prevent HIV transmission; List basic HIV treatments, prevention options, and related infections; Explain key Florida HIV/AIDS Laws on testing, confidentiality, and reporting; Differentiate medications used for HIV prevention, treatment, and related infections.
