Course overview

This Two-hour lecture explores irregular astigmatism from the ground up, starting with a review of normal ocular anatomy and the different types of astigmatism. Participants will learn how regular and irregular astigmatism differ optically and anatomically, and how various diseases, degenerations, surgical procedures, and traumatic events can distort the cornea and create irregular astigmatism. The course then reviews contact lens options for these patients, including specialty GP, hybrid, and scleral lenses, with a focus on how and why they improve vision by masking corneal irregularity. Finally, attendees will be introduced to corneal procedures that may be considered when contact lenses no longer provide adequate vision or comfort.
