Course overview

This Two-hour lecture provides a practical, step-by-step framework for moving from a spectacle refraction to an appropriate toric contact lens prescription. The course begins with a clear review of basic optics and refractive errors, including sphere, cylinder, and axis, and how these elements interact on the eye. Participants will learn how to transpose prescriptions into minus cylinder form, determine when spherical equivalent is appropriate versus when true toric correction is needed, and how to compensate for vertex distance in higher powers. The lecture then walks through lens selection from K-readings and corneal shape, including base curve choice, soft toric versus GP options, and the role of front toric, back toric, bitoric, and scleral designs. By the end, attendees will have a structured approach they can apply to real-world patients to improve visual outcomes and reduce trial-and-error fitting.
