Safe and Effective Prescription of Controlled Substances

Course overview

This course is designed to provide Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) with current knowledge and evidence-based guidelines related to the safe and effective prescribing of controlled substances. Participants will review pharmacology principles, risk assessment strategies, pain management considerations, substance use disorders, regulatory requirements, and best practices for prescribing controlled medications while minimizing misuse, abuse, diversion, and overdose risks. The course also addresses Florida laws and regulations, Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) requirements, patient education, documentation standards, and ethical responsibilities associated with controlled substance prescribing.
