Course overview

What do eating disorders and substance use disorders have in common? Why do they commonly co-occur? When they co-occur, which should be treated first? Are eating disorders addictions? How can specialists in one diagnosis become more confident assessing for the other? Presenter Asia Place, LPCC-S, CDCA, answers those questions and more in this 2.25 hour training designed for those who work with either eating disorders or substance use disorders who want to know more about the other diagnosis and how to assess and treat individuals who have both. The training begins with prevalence, stats, and facts about each type of diagnosis, as well as data about them co-occurring. Then, to help providers accurately assess for each diagnosis, standardized screening tools, diagnostic criteria, medical complications, and specific questions for patients are discussed. Includes evidenced-based interventions and treatment modalities to use with this dual diagnosis in outpatient care with adults and provides a variety of adjunct services, resources and referral sources. **Pica and ruminating disorder are not included in this training.
