Depression in Mothers: More Than the Blues is a 3 CE course based on the SAMHSA publication focused on understanding and responding to maternal depression. Many mothers experience symptoms of depression during pregnancy and early parenthood without recognizing what they are experiencing or seeking support. Left untreated, maternal depression can affect emotional health, parenting, attachment, relationships, and overall family functioning. This course is designed for mental health professionals, social workers, marriage and family therapists, counselors, and related professionals working with women, children, and families. Participants will review the emotional and behavioral signs of maternal depression, risk factors, barriers to treatment, and the impact depression can have on both mothers and their children. The course also discusses practical ways professionals can support mothers through screening, communication, referrals, psychoeducation, and community resources.
