This presentation will provide a overview of the cytomorphologic features that distinguish between thyroid nodules classified as benign, atypical, neoplasm and suspicious or consistent with Malignancy. The discussion will also include the following: 1) how to make sense and incorporate the clinical and radiology guidelines for management of thyroid nodules into daily practice of thyroid cytology; 2) overview of cytomorphologic overlaps, the current status and applicability of molecular testing of FNA specimens obtained from thyroid nodules and 3) a summary of the 3rd edition of Bethesda System for Reporting thyroid FNA specimens and 2022 WHO classification of thyroid tumors. Target Audience This educational activity is designed for pathologists, cytopathologists, cytotechnologists, students and other members of the cytopathology community. Learning Objectives Illustrate key diagnostic features of thyroid FNA specimens classified as suspicious and malignant including diagnostic pitfalls. Describe role of molecular tests, especially those which employ next generation sequencing in the management of thyroid nodules. Discuss the impact 3rd edition of Bethesda Thyroid FNA Classification Scheme and 2022 WHO classification of Thyroid Tumors on your cytology practice.
