Course overview

Individuals with disabilities experience higher rates of healthcare disparities, preventable adverse events, and unmet health needs compared to the general population. Disabilities may be physical, sensory, intellectual, developmental, or cognitive and can affect communication, mobility, and access to care. National data demonstrate that people with disabilities face significant barriers within healthcare systems, increasing risk for poor outcomes. This course reviews types of disabilities, prevalence data, patient safety implications, and strategies to support safe, equitable, and effective care.
