2026 Pediatric Symposium - EMS Response to Sexual Violence

Course overview

This course prepares EMS professionals to respond confidently and compassionately to patients experiencing sexual violence. Participants will learn how to stabilize acute medical needs, provide trauma informed emotional support, and safeguard both patient safety and forensic integrity in the prehospital setting. The training covers recognizing signs of sexual assault, minimizing re traumatization, preserving potential evidence, understanding consent and confidentiality, and navigating mandated reporting requirements. EMS providers will leave with practical strategies to deliver patient centered care while coordinating effectively with hospitals, advocates, and law enforcement to ensure a seamless and supportive response.
