Infection prevention and control programs in correctional settings face many challenges today. New and reemerging infectious diseases, evolving vaccines, treatments, and medications, changing recommendations and guidelines, increased international travel, diverse stakeholders, and emerging technologies all add complexity to these efforts in both society and correctional environments. As professionals, our role goes beyond collecting data; it includes proactive surveillance, early identification, research, staying current on updated information, and education to protect everyone who works, lives, or visits in correctional settings.
