This full-day workshop will allow Medical Laboratory Scientists (MLSs) to refresh their knowledge in core microbiology skills such as the basics of antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) and fungal diagnostics. The workshop will provide real-life stories from fellow MLSs on areas in which they have made an impact in the laboratory, affecting patient outcomes. The agenda also includes a panel discussion on career advancement, time to visit the ASM Microbe 2026 Exhibit Hall, and attendance at Microbe's Science and Society Lecture. This in-person day of content will be held conjointly with ASM Microbe 2026 (Washington, DC), however, ASM Microbe registration is not required to attend. This workshop is available to practicing MLSs/MLTs (ASM members and non-members). Learning Objectives: Recall the fundamentals of AST. Review the process for a fungal diagnostic case. Diagnose potential problems in the lab and recommend a plan to resolve the problem. Discuss potential career paths for MLSs.
