Where to Start: Posture, head control and oral motor function in medically complex children

Course overview

This course incorporates Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT) Core Principles, including patient-centered evaluation and goal-driven intervention, in-depth analysis of movement within functional contexts, and hands-on facilitation to enhance postural, head, and graded oral motor control. Participants will learn to design individualized, evidence-informed plans of care that minimize compensatory strategies, promote skill acquisition, and support meaningful participation in ADLs, iADLs, feeding/swallowing, and communication. These principles guide clinicians in applying integrated, collaborative approaches for medically complex children, ensuring interventions are purposeful, functional, and responsive to each child's needs.
