One in nine South Carolina children will experience the death of a parent or sibling by age eighteen. Additionally, ninety- seven percent of teachers believe grief adversely impacts learning, and one in four youth who die by suicide were bereaved. Adding to these statistics, most adults- including professional funeral directors/embalmers- admit they do not know what to say or how to support grieving children and teens. Dr. Patti Anewalt will explain what children need when a loved one has lived with a life-limiting illness and subsequent death, drawing on children/teen's resiliency to cope and grow through the losses.
