Course overview

This one-hour, technical spectacle course is designed to enhance the understanding for dispensing opticians of modern spectacle-based myopia management, with particular emphasis on Essilor Stellest lens technology and the expanding role of the optician in pediatric myopia care. As the prevalence of myopia continues to increase worldwide, dispensing opticians are becoming increasingly involved in the education, dispensing, troubleshooting, and ongoing support of young myopic patients and their families. This course will examine the progression of myopia, associated long-term ocular risks, current management philosophies, and the scientific principles behind spectacle lens designs intended to slow axial elongation. Participating opticians will analyze the design characteristics, fitting considerations, dispensing strategies, adaptation concerns, and patient communication techniques associated with Stellest lenses. The course will also briefly compare spectacle-based myopia management approaches with alternative methods including contact lenses and pharmaceutical interventions. This course will contribute to the advancement of professional knowledge by enabling opticians to better interpret myopia management technologies, communicate realistic expectations to parents and patients, improve dispensing accuracy, and participate more effectively within both the modern multidisciplinary myopia management practice and more commercial dispensaries with independent doctors of optometry.
