This 1-hour course provides healthcare professionals with an overview of nutrition and healthy aging in older adults. Participants will review common age-related changes that may affect nutritional status, including changes in appetite, taste, digestion, dental health, metabolism, muscle mass, bone density, hydration, and mobility. The course also covers nutritional risks such as malnutrition, dehydration, constipation, sarcopenia, frailty, and nutrient deficiencies. Emphasis is placed on nutrient-dense foods, adequate protein, fiber, hydration, Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Calcium, meal appeal, swallowing or chewing concerns, socialization during meals, and practical strategies that support strength, independence, bowel health, bone health, and overall well-being.
