This 2-hour course provides healthcare professionals with an overview of domestic violence and intimate partner violence, including definitions, types of abuse, risk factors, clinical indicators, screening practices, documentation, safety planning, and prevention strategies. Participants will review common forms of abuse, including physical, emotional, psychological, verbal, sexual, and financial abuse, as well as isolation, controlling behaviors, and stalking. The course also covers the cycle of violence, trauma-informed communication, patient privacy, confidentiality, mandatory reporting considerations, appropriate referrals, and community resources. Emphasis is placed on recognizing possible signs of abuse, responding safely and respectfully, documenting findings accurately, and supporting patient-centered safety planning.
