Course overview

This comprehensive 40-hour Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) training program prepares registered nurses to provide specialized, trauma-informed care to patients who have experienced sexual assault or abuse. The course integrates clinical assessment, forensic evidence collection, legal considerations, and interdisciplinary collaboration in accordance with national standards. Participants will gain knowledge and practical skills necessary to perform medical forensic examinations, document findings accurately, and provide courtroom-ready testimony. Emphasis is placed on patient-centered, culturally competent, and traumatically informed care to support both physical and psychological recovery. The curriculum aligns with national guidelines and best practices established by the International Association of Forensic Nurses and the U.S. Department of Justice National Protocol for Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Examinations.

Successful Completion Requirements

To receive continuing education credit, participants must:

- Attend or complete 100% of the activity

- Achieve a minimum score of 70% on the post-test

- Complete and submit the course evaluation

Record Retention

Participant records, including attendance, evaluations, and post-test results, will be maintained for a minimum of four (4) years in accordance with Florida Board of Nursing requirements.


Grievance Policy

Participants may submit written grievances within seven (7) days of course completion. All grievances will be reviewed and addressed within fourteen (14) days.
