Course overview

Participants will be able to define Infant Mental Health and explain its core principles, including the importance of early relationships, emotional regulation, and the infants subjective experience, will be able to describe key aspects of early development and attachment, including brain development, sensitive periods, and the impact of trauma or disrupted caregiving on the parent-infant relationship, will be able to name clinical risk factors and early signs of mental health challenges in infants and toddlers, including how trauma may present and influence early development, will be able to describe the framework and core components of Child Parent Psychotherapy and explore how this evidence-based model supports healing in the context of the caregiver-child relationship, will be able to demonstrate how to integrate IMH informed, trauma informed, and culturally responsive practices into mental health work with young children and their families, and will be able to use reflective practice and decision-making in clinical settings, including how and when to apply IMH principles and how to seek ongoing training or supervision in this field.
