Course overview

Course Description: This course presents a comprehensive, evidence-based examination of Trauma Informed Care (TIC) as reviewed in a systematic report funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and produced through the Agency for Healthcare Research and Qualitys Evidence-based Practice Centers. Participants will explore how TIC is defined across leading national frameworks, including SAMHSAs six key principles, and how organizational and clinical components of TIC vary across adult and youth settings. The course covers the current state of research evidence on TIC effectiveness in medical, mental health, child welfare, and primary prevention contexts, examining both randomized controlled trials and nonrandomized comparative studies. Learners will critically evaluate study design, risk of bias, and strength of evidence findings, and explore implications for clinical practice and future research priorities in trauma-informed systems of care. This course on Trauma Informed Care is designed for social workers, professional counselors, psychologists, nurses, and substance abuse counselors, who do clinical work. This course is appropriate for intermediate and advanced level practitioners who wish to develop or increase their knowledge of trauma-informed care frameworks, definitions, models, and current evidence. It may also be useful for licensed clinicians who require clinical continuing education courses for license renewal. Authors: Mavranezouli, Megnin-Viggars, Daly, Dias, Welton, Stockton, Bhutani, Grey, Leach, Greenberg, Katona, Pilling Learning Objectives: This course will provide a professional with detailed information about trauma-informed care.
