LiteGait Therapy: Rationale, Evidence-based Protocols & Clinical Applications

Course overview

Much of therapeutic rehabilitative practice involves facilitation of the recovery of ambulation and its components, namely posture, balance, weight bearing, endurance and coordination of lower limb movement. Partial Weight Bearing Gait Therapy (PWB-GT) or Body Weight Supported Treadmill Training (BWS-TT) has been demonstrated as an effective means for improving ambulation and other functional gains for patients with a variety of neurological and orthopedic conditions such as Stroke, Brain Injury, Spinal Cord Injury, Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson's Disease, Down Syndrome, degenerative diseases, prosthetic training and more. Research has shown that the use of these protocols may hasten patient gains and functional outcomes in a safe and effective environment. This series of presentations bridges the gap between clinical research and clinical practice. LiteGait Therapy (LGT) provides the means for clinicians to utilize these established gait therapy protocols as well as extends their use to other therapeutic activities, including pre-gait, functional skills, posture and balance training. This course examines the scientific rationale for LiteGait Therapy clinical use, diagnosis specific protocols extracted from clinical research, and offers a blueprint of how to apply these techniques in clinical practice. This course covers a full range of facilitation techniques for both pediatric and adult populations, as well as expected outcomes and goals. Participants will be exposed to using LGT for ambulation, balance, pre-gait, therapeutic exercises, gait assessment and dual-task therapy via a series of case reports and video presentations of patients of varying diagnoses and functional levels.
