Course overview

Balance rehabilitation is one of the well-established pillars of therapy practice. However, we all often have encountered a patient whose difficulties with balance are so complex or recalcitrant that we hit a wall trying to figure out how to help them. It is critical as therapists we help patients improve function and safety. The course delves into the depths of balance dysfunction to not only explain why you are seeing what you are in each case, but also offer practical and evidence-based strategies to help your patients overcome these barriers. This course will review the different components of balance and how they interact to enable dynamic functional mobility while minimizing risk of injury. Participants will be able to identify what it looks like when each of these components goes wrong and describe the more common balance dysfunctions in detail. Participants will review the literature to offer up the most effective interventions to allow patients to either rehabilitate their balance or learn effective compensatory strategies to safely reduce fall risk.
