Course overview

Photobiomodulation (PBM) continues to evolve as an increasingly important tool in veterinary medicine. This session will review emerging research involving PBM use in veterinary patients for a variety of conditions while integrating newer evidence surrounding wavelength optimization, tissue penetration, and deep tissue dosing strategies relevant to clinical veterinary practice. Attendees will explore current understanding of PBM applications for neurological, orthopedic, and even abdominal conditions, with emphasis on practical treatment considerations for optimizing outcomes. The lecture will also review newer evidence surrounding wavelength utilization, light-tissue penetration, and how factors such as patient size, coat & skin pigmentation, and target tissue depth should influence protocol dosing and treatment efficiency. Emerging modeling and translational research continue to reinforce PBM as a precision therapy where various parameters directly influence clinical success. Finally, attendees will gain practical guidance for treatment planning aimed at improving confidence when incorporating PBM into management strategies for chronically painful and/or neurologic patients in everyday veterinary practice.
