Have you ever felt numb after a euthanasia, gotten home from a hard day, and picked a silly fight with your partner, or realized you hadn't had a good night's sleep in weeks, but couldn't figure out why? These can all be signs of compassion fatigue, or a gradual state of physical and emotional exhaustion that accumulates over time as we take on the pain, trauma, and distress we see nearly every day as veterinary professionals. Compassion fatigue training is designed to help you recapture and hold onto your sense of purpose, joy, and hope. We will learn the difference between compassion fatigue and burnout, discuss secondary traumatic stress, and introduce evidence-based professional resiliency skills to help you manage stress and the emotional demands of this challenging but beautiful profession.
