Learn how to perform Marma Therapeutic Massage and the Ayurvedic Foundations necessary for optimal practice, benefit, safety, and self care. Marma points are vital points on the body, similar to acupuncture or shiatsu of Traditional Chinese Medicine points, used as an assessment tool and for healing body, mind and consciousness. They are classified according to their location on the body, tissue of which they are composed, and the effects felt if injured. Ayurvedic massage therapy is based upon the knowledge of these sensitive, vital anatomical points, where structures pulsate and pain can exist. They are reflex anatomical sites, where flesh, veins, arteries, tendons, bones and joints meet and connect by subtle channels similar to meridians that carry energy and impulses that vitalize us. This program provides 12 contact hours of hands on training in Marma Therapeutic Ayurvedic Massage where participants will work with each other, giving and receiving therapies, and learn the Ayurvedic theory that supports safe, therapeutic and optimal practice and self care. Subjects include Setting up the treatment room, qualities of practitioner and self care, Ayurvedic anatomy and physiology including 5 elements, doshic theory and function, adaptation for daily and seasonal rhythms, assessment tools, techniques and intake methods, providing a safe and therapeutic massage, selecting appropriate treatment protocol, choosing oil, adapting speed, pressure and language, learning the Marma points of the head, neck and face and joints, learning 3 sequences and the appropriate sequence for individual Ayurvedic Constitution (dosha) and condition, the role of marma therapy within panchakarma, its function, scope, and purpose, the Ayurvedic definition of health, root cause of disease, disease progression, the role of Ayurvedic massage therapy in rejuvenation, detoxification, deep relaxation, and balancing of the body, mind and energy.
